I got a question on my blog were I put my spare tire or tire sealant when I raced Ironman 70.3 St.Pölten last weekend. Instead of giving the answer short I thought I just could write a short article about my race setup and why I choose the solutions I do.
My sponsor Boardman Bikes have supplied me with their finest triathlon bike with aerodynamic abillities in world class. It would be a shame to ruin the endless hours of work to optimize the aerodynamic with a poor setup, which I belive a lot of people actually do.
If you take all the superbikes in triathlon and put them in the wind tunnel you will get a list from best to worst. If you take the best one and put a round bottle on the down tube it will become the poorest performer. That says alot about how important the setup actually is. Therefore I go for a minimalistic style, with everything I need, but nothing more.
This is how I have my Boardman TTE Signature on race day. A stock Boardman TTE Signature with Zipp 808 tubular wheels (until I get my Enve 8.9 SES Tubulars). The only thing I add is a water bottle in the cage behind the seat.
Any questions why I choose the solutions I do, and not the other, please feel free to ask.
