Give up while I am on top? Not going to happen! Giving up after a failure? The thought has not even crossed my mind.
Norseman 2016 was the very first race I did not finish, after suffering from swimming-induced pulmonary edema (more about this can be read in this blog post). It was not a nice experience, but life is not always supposed to be nice. It was a very valuable experience, from which I learned a lot. Winning for the third time in a row was the goal for the day, and would have been glorious. However, it would no have made me grow as a person. Having a body that failed learned me to appreciate having a great health wih a body that usually works great. Stricking my loved ones deep fear of my life, was the most painful part. It made it crystal clear that the most important thing in the world are them, and that I must prioritize according to that. Hopefully and most likely we will grow quit old together, but life is uncertain, and we have to make every day count!
The experience also gave me tons of motivation to come back 5.august next year and show what I am capable off. Therefor I signed up for the enrollment for next years Norseman.
I am quit confident that I will get one of the 15 elite men slots, and am humbly aware of that most of the more than 3000 participants in the lottery will be disappointed. Since the lottery system changed this year with one extra ticket each year you apply I would recommend getting a ticket now, even if you are not quit sure if you will be race ready until 2018. My passion for triathlon started with Norseman in 2009, a race I signed up nearly before I knew anything about triathlon. I could not swim crawl and had no endurance background, but it did not prevent me doing the rather bold (or/and stupid) move of signing up to the worlds toughest triathlon. It should not prevent you either! So sign up 🙂 Enrollment closes on Sunday 6st 18:00. Click on the picture below or this link.
